JOHN HALEWOOD-DODD

Managing Director & Senior Defence Solicitor

 

John heads up our Criminal Defence team having qualified as a Solicitor in 1996. He has established a determined and tenacious team of Lawyers, and support staff, renowned for obtaining successful outcomes for clients.

 

He specialised in Criminal Law from the outset and has successfully defended a myriad of cases, ranging from motoring offences to allegations of Murder. His highest profile case was a three month Trial at The Old Bailey, involving multiple Defendants, where his client was the only one found Not Guilty.

 

John is also a member of Duty Solicitor schemes for both Court and Police Stations. His continued passion for assisting those facing the entire spectrum of allegations remains the driving force behind the company.

 

Having become a Licensee himself, John is also experienced in Licensing law obtaining liquor and entertainment licences for individuals and businesses alike. He also succeeded in retaining the food Licence of a business where the local authority were objecting in another case that hit the headlines.

DANIEL SPENCER

Associate Solicitor

 

Daniel joined the LHD team as a trainee solicitor in 2006 and has remained with the company ever since, having qualified as a Solicitor in 2008. Daniel specialises in Criminal Defence and Licensing Law and has previously worked as a Paralegal in the Greater Manchester and Preston areas.

 

Daniel has daily experience of advocacy at the Magistrates and Youth Courts and is a qualified Court Duty Solicitor. He also represents clients in Police Station interviews, having been an accredited Police Station Representative since 2004.

 

He has a vast experience of dealing with a wide range of cases, including representation for the most serious of offences such as Murder, Rape, Drug Trafficking and Serious Fraud. He is also a specialist solicitor in relation to all types of motoring offences.

 

Daniel has a proven track record in relation to securing acquittals for Defendants at trials and has a respected reputation with both clients and other advocates as a tenacious opponent.

REBECCA SEYMOUR

Associate Solicitor

 

Rebecca initially joined the team as a legal clerk in 2009 and on recognising her potential she was supported through her post graduate studies and offered a training contract. Whilst undertaking her qualification she obtained accreditation as a Police Station Representative.

 

Rebecca has solely specialised in Criminal Defence work and qualified as a Duty Solicitor in 2012. She has experience in a vast range of cases, dealing with each stage of a criminal case from Police Station interview through to trial at Court. She has built a strong rapport with clients, always obtaining the optimum result.

 

Rebecca has excelled at trials and specialises in abuse of process arguments.

SOPHIE GILLESPIE

Associate Solicitor

 

Sophie joined the team in 2010, where she quickly demonstrated real ability. Sophie was trained in-house, initially achieving her Police Station accreditation. Having gained valuable experience, knowledge and developing relevant competence she qualified as a Duty Solicitor in 2015.

 

She has worked exclusively in Criminal Defence since joining our team and has become proficient in all aspects of a criminal case, dealing with the full spectrum of Criminal Law.

 

Sophie has conducted many successful trials, using her knowledge of case law and experience in legal research to support her thorough preparation of cases. She works extremely hard to secure the best possible outcome for clients whilst offering support above and beyond that which would normally be expected.

LOUISE GORDON

Trainee Solicitor

 

Louise was offered a Training Contract in 2018, having shown a keen interest for Criminal Defence during work experience placements whilst completing her undergraduate studies.

 

Louise is undertaking her training alongside her post graduate studies and applies up-to-date knowledge of case law and legislation in her preparation of cases, ranging from relatively minor Magistrates Court matters to complex Crown Court cases. Louise is passionate about all aspects of Criminal Law. She is eager to continue her professional development and looks forward to qualifying in July 2020.

 

 

TONY McCRINK

Magistrates Court Clerk &

Accredited Police Station Representative

 

Tony joined the firm in 2001 and quickly became a trusted member of LHD’s case preparation team. He is the senior legal clerk in the Magistrates’ Court department and is an Accredited Police Station Representative.

 

Tony has many years of experience dealing with an array of offences up to and including complex Conspiracy cases and Murder. He has extensive knowledge of all areas of Criminal Law which he applies in his dealings with cases both at the police station and when preparing cases for Court.

 

 

PAUL CLARKE

Crown Court Clerk

 

Paul is the senior legal clerk within our Crown Court department. He joined the firm in 2003 but has over 30 years of experience working on Crown Court cases and is respected by Counsel and the Courts.

 

His knowledge of local practice and practitioners at every level is extremely beneficial. He has overseen the successful defence on a wide variety of matters including serious matters such as Murder, complex Proceeds of Crime Applications and Terrorism.

EILEEN WALTON

Crown Court Clerk

 

Eileen has been with LHD since 2006 working as a Clerk within our Crown Court department. She has had a variety of career paths, even working abroad at one stage, and she brings this life experience to her position within the firm.

Eileen consistently receives high praise from clients for her calming manner during a stressful time and is respected by Counsel with whom she works closely on a daily basis. She has dealt with all manner of Serious Crime including large scale Drug cases, Fraud, People Trafficking, Rape and violent offences including murder.

DARREN HALSTED

 

 

Darren has been a member of the team since 2002, having qualified in 1993 and working at another practice as a partner in the crime department. He has worked solely in criminal defence for over 15 years acquiring extensive experience in all types of criminal cases, including defending road traffic cases, taxi law allegations and ASBOs. He is one of our more experienced solicitors and has particular expertise in defending more complex trials at which has a proven record of success.
